Position Overview
Reporting to the Manager, Meal Services, the Relief Cook at Inn from the Cold (The Inn) is responsible for preparing, cooking and storing all food products as well as ensuring the Neoma kitchen and commercial kitchen are cleaned and maintained daily. Ensuring that all AHS Food Safety Standards as well as The Inn’s Kitchen Standards are followed. Checklists and temperature lists are filled out daily as well as communication with off-shift team members is up to date and accurate. This role will require a class 5 driver’s license with a clean, consecutive 3-year drivers abstract. As the kitchen is offsite, you will sometimes be required to drive a company vehicle to transport food. This is an on-call relief role and will require the candidate to be flexible with working holidays, weekends, weekdays and evenings. Shifts will vary week to week, and you must be willing to pick up shifts on short notice.
What You'll Do
- Safely operate and drive The Inn’s van to deliver various food items and products while respecting all road/traffic rules.
- Preparing, cooking, and storing of all food products following the AHS Food Safety Standards and The Inn’s Kitchen Standards.
- Serving meals to clients at the Neoma kitchen.
- Provides direction and assign tasks to volunteers when needed.
- Ensure refrigerators/ freezers and storerooms are clean, organized and maintained in various kitchen areas, including bathrooms.
- Maintain temperature logs for fridges, freezers and food.
- Complete assigned work duties within a timely manner, meeting required deadlines.
- Practice proper grooming, personal hygiene, and uniform standards.
- Meet performance expectations and communicate in a timely manner when there are obstacles to meeting expectations.
- Participate in organizational activities including team meetings, town halls and team building activities.

What You Bring to Our Mission
- 1-2 years of professional cooking or shelter-based kitchen experience.
- Experience working with volunteers is an asset.
- Food Safety and First Aid/CPR certification required.
- Class 5 driver’s license with a clean abstract (3 consecutive years).
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Knowledge of diverse food and dietary requirements.
- Proficiency with Outlook and Microsoft Teams.
- Completion of police check and vulnerable sector check prior to employment.
