Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Communications & Content Specialist to join our team at Inn from the Cold. The Communications & Content Specialist supports strategic communications, public relations, and executive messaging to strengthen Inn from the Cold’s brand, reputation, and philanthropic impact. The Specialist is a strong writer and creative storyteller who leads cross-platform content, media engagement, and social media to position The Inn as a charity of choice and a thought leader in family homelessness.
What You’ll Do
- Lead cross-platform content creation and storytelling by writing, editing, and gathering interviews to produce compelling digital, print, and donor-focused materials.
- Execute and support the development of the social media strategy, overseeing daily posts, multimedia content, community interaction, analytics reporting, and paid social campaigns.
- Support executive communications by drafting speeches, op-eds, key messages, and briefing materials for leadership.
- Drive public relations and media engagement, including pitching stories, coordinating interviews, responding to media inquiries, and maintaining media contact lists.
- Produce and manage newsletters and email marketing, handling content, design, scheduling, and audience list administration.
- Maintain and update the organizational website with timely blogs, landing pages, program updates, and event information.
- Write donor-centered and campaign copy for fundraising appeals, digital ads, multi-channel campaigns, and event promotions.
- Support internal communications and staff engagement, contributing to strategies and campaigns that strengthen organizational culture and alignment.
- Capture and create visual content—photos, videos, and event assets—to enhance storytelling and support real-time engagement.

What You Bring to Our Mission
- Strong written and verbal communication with ability to write for multiple audiences.
- Adaptability and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of professionalism and accountability.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Creative thinking and an eye for detail in storytelling and design.
- Post-secondary education in communications, journalism, marketing, or public relations.
- 2–5 years of experience in communications, digital content, or public relations (nonprofit experience an asset).
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office 365, and content design tools.
- Familiarity with website CMS (e.g., WordPress), Mailchimp, Hootsuite, Google Analytics, and social media platforms.
- Experience writing for both internal and external audiences.
- Working knowledge of social media strategy and paid ad campaigns.
- Photography and video editing skills are considered an asset.
