About the Role:

The Facilities & Ground Support Manager is responsible for the operational readiness, reliability, and cost-effective management of Avmax's facilities, ground support equipment (GSE), and company vehicle fleet across multiple airport-based locations.

The role ensures hangars, shops, infrastructure, and ground support assets are consistently available to support maintenance and MRO activities with minimal disruption. The position focuses on operational execution, asset reliability, vendor coordination, and continuous improvement, while maintaining consistent standards across all sites.

The Facilities & Ground Support Manager reports directly to the Director of Business Intelligence.

Duties & Responsibilities

Facilities Operations

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations and functionality of hangers, warehouse, offices, and support spaces across multiple airport-based locations.
  • Ensure facilities are operationally ready to support maintenance schedules and workload demands.
  • Coordinate and prioritize repairs, maintenance, and facilities work to minimize operational downtime.
  • Manage preventive maintenance programs for buildings, hangar doors, equipment, HVAC systems, and related infrastructure.
  • Coordinate facility projects, upgrades, and space utilization changes in support of operational needs.
  • Manage utilities, environment systems, waste services, and snow removal coordination, where applicable.
  • Develop and manage facilities operating budgets, ensuring cost control and value from vendors.

Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Operations

  • Ensure availability, reliability and serviceability of all GSE across Avmax locations.
  • Oversee GSE maintenance planning, inspections, certifications, and asset tracking.
  • Plan ground support resource needs to meet maintenance demand and avoid tracking.
  • Manage third-party service providers and equipment vendors.
  • Drive improvements in GSE utilization, reliability, and lifecycle management.

Vehicle Fleet Management

  • Provide oversight of the company vehicle fleet across Avmax locations.
  • Ensure vehicles are maintained in a safe, compliant, and operational condition.
  • Coordinate vehicle servicing, inspection and repairs with external vendors and service providers.
  • Manage vehicle lifecycle planning, including replacement timing and cost considerations.
  • Source, evaluate, and support the purchase or lease of suitable vehicles aligned with operational needs.
  • Maintain accurate records related to vehicle maintenance, usage, and vendor services.

Operational Coordination & Leadership

  • Work closely with Maintenance and Planning teams to align facilities and ground support with production needs.
  • Act as the primary operational contact for facility- and ground-related issues across all airport locations.
  • Support short- and long-term capacity planning for hangar space, infrastructure, and equipment.
  • Provide operational input for news programs or changes in maintenance workload.
  • Lead and oversee Facilities and Ground Support staff, ensuring appropriate resourcing, performance management, and alignment with operational priorities.

Compliance, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain permits, records, and documentation related to facilities, leases, GSE, and vehicle fleet.
  • Support operational audits and inspections in coordination with relevant stakeholders.
  • Coordinate environment and hazardous material services in collaboration with Health & Safety.
  • Monitor and report on facility performance, GSE uptime, downtime drivers, vehicle fleet status, and operational costs.
  • Identify inefficiencies and drive reliability, cost, and process improvements across facilities, ground support, and fleet operations.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of facilities & hanger operations, infrastructure, ground support equipment, and vehicle fleet management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage vendors, contracts, and operating budgets.
  • Strong planning, problem-solving, and execution skills.
  • Millwright certification or relevant technical background is considered a strong asset.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC) through the applicable airport authority.

Experience

  • 7+ years' experience in facilities, ground support, or base operations within an aviation or MRO environment is considered an asset.
  • Experience coordinating operational resources in a high-tempo maintenance environment.
  • Proven experience coordinating multiple sites or complex operational assets.
