Cultural Helper
Poundmaker’s Lodge Treatment Centres
Position Summary
The Cultural Helper supports the addictions treatment program by providing Indigenous cultural teachings, ceremonies, and spiritual guidance. This role helps create and maintain a culturally grounded healing environment for clients through traditional practices and community connections.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and lead cultural ceremonies and teachings (e.g., Sweat Lodge, Pipe Ceremony, cultural lectures, completion ceremonies).
Support Elders and maintain the ceremonial space and cultural materials.
Provide cultural orientation and spiritual guidance to clients.
Work collaboratively with counsellors to support clients’ healing and cultural connection.
Maintain relationships with Elders and the Indigenous community.
Ensure cultural activities align with Centre policies, ethics, and accreditation standards.
Participate in staff meetings, team discussions, and client support activities.
Qualifications
Strong knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions, and ceremonies.
Experience working with Indigenous communities and/or in healing or treatment settings.
Ability to support clients with compassion, respect, and cultural understanding.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
