Position Overview
The Facility Assistant supports daily building operations by completing custodial duties, light to medium maintenance tasks, repairs, inspections, inventory support, and general facility coordination. This role works closely with the Facilities Coordinator and Manager of Operations to help maintain clean, safe, functional, and well-maintained spaces for residents, staff, visitors, and program operations.

 

Key Responsibilities

Custodial and Housekeeping Support

  • Perform routine cleaning of offices, washrooms, common areas, fixtures, furniture, floors, vents, and high-touch surfaces.
  • Complete move-out, move-in, emergency, and deep-cleaning tasks as required.
  • Restock supplies and maintain cleaning checklists, including daily washroom documentation.
  • Follow safe chemical handling, WHMIS, infection-control, and cleanliness standards.

Maintenance and Repair Support

  • Complete light to medium repairs, including drywall patching, painting, hardware repairs, fixture repairs, flooring support, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Assist with renovation-related tasks, unit turnover repairs, plumbing support, doors, walls, fixtures, and general building deficiencies.
  • Identify and report larger repair needs, safety concerns, and building-system issues.
  • Support preventive maintenance activities, inspections, and building-condition checks.

Facility Coordination and Operational Support

  • Assist the Facilities Coordinator and Manager of Operations with work requests, inspections, inventory, contractor access, and follow-up.
  • Support room setup, furniture moves, supply movement, equipment handling, and operational requests.
  • Help track tools, materials, maintenance supplies, cleaning supplies, and facility needs.
  • Take direction from senior staff and support priorities across assigned sites.

Donations, Inventory, and Receiving

  • Receive, sort, organize, move, and store donations, supplies, equipment, and deliveries.
  • Assess donation quality and help dispose of unsuitable, excess, or inappropriate items.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized receiving and storage areas.
  • Assist with inventory shortages, donation distribution, and movement of goods.

Safety and Compliance

  • Follow organizational policies, safety procedures, security expectations, and OHS requirements.
  • Use safe lifting methods and request assistance for heavy or awkward items.
  • Monitor and report hazards, damage, security concerns, and maintenance issues.
  • Participate in team meetings, training, employee engagement activities, and development opportunities.

What You Bring to Our Mission

  • Strong technical aptitude and proven hands-on repair ability in building maintenance, renovations, construction, trades, industrial work, or similar technical environments.
  • Ability to complete light to medium maintenance and repair tasks, including drywall, painting, plumbing support, flooring, carpentry, fixtures, hardware, troubleshooting, and general building repairs.
  • Experience supporting renovations, unit turnovers, inspections, preventive maintenance, and facility repairs is strongly preferred.
  • Oil and gas field, industrial, construction, trades, contractor, or building-operations experience is considered a strong asset.
  • Custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, donations receiving, inventory, or facility-support experience is considered an asset.
  • Ability to coordinate tasks, communicate with contractors when needed, follow up on repairs, and support the Facilities Coordinator and Manager of Operations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, follow direction, prioritize work, and respond to urgent operational needs.
  • Ability to perform physical work, including lifting, moving, cleaning, repairs, supply handling, and working in active residential/service environments.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, initiative, accountability, flexibility, and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Comfortable asking questions, receiving feedback, providing feedback, and adapting to changing priorities.
  • Safety, security, privacy, ethics, and respectful service are important values for you.
  • Available to work day shifts, including weekends and holidays, with flexibility for additional hours when needed

 

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 1 year of custodial, janitorial, facility-support, maintenance, construction, renovation, industrial, or similar hands-on experience.
  • Strong technical skills and hands-on maintenance/repair ability are required.
  • Experience with drywall, painting, plumbing support, flooring, carpentry, fixtures, troubleshooting, renovations, or general repairs is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in oil and gas, industrial, construction, trades, contractor work, or building maintenance is considered a strong asset.
  • Customer service experience is considered an asset.
  • Donation receiving, inventory, or supply-handling experience is considered an asset.
  • WHMIS, First Aid, chemical handling, ladder safety, or other relevant safety training is highly preferred.
  • Police information / criminal record check required.
  • Child intervention record check is preferred or may be required depending on role requirements.
  • Ability to safely lift, move, clean, repair, and support daily facility operations.
  • Good communication skills in English.
  • Strong reliability, initiative, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
