TELUS Spark Science Centre (Spark), a registered educational charity, exists to entertain and inspire people of all ages through creative encounters with science, engineering, technology, math and art. Spark exists to lift people up with the power of curiosity through creative encounters with science!
Calgary’s science centre is a pioneer in science entertainment and programming, with roots dating back to 1967. Home to one of Western Canada’s largest dome theatre, the Digital Immersion Gallery, VR experiences, and innovative spaces like Steven’s Lab, where interactive experiments unfold before your eyes. From the robot-dog Flint to Canada’s first robot-coa5ter, R05iE, and a 15-acre park surrounding the science of the developing brain, Spark is a hub for creative encounters.
Position Overview
Spark is currently recruiting a part time permanent Security Guard. The Security Guard reports directly to the Coordinator, Health & Safety. The Security Guard is accountable for maintaining a safe and secure environment for guests and employees by enforcing security policies and procedures within Spark. Please note: The successful candidate will be required to work Evenings, Saturdays and Sundays.
Key Responsibilities
· Respond to security and safety incidents, and take charge in appropriate situations to calm, enforce and protect as required.
· Respond to injuries and provide first aid to guests, staff & volunteers as required.
· Conduct witness interviews as required to gather detailed information for accurate incident reporting.
· Conduct regular foot patrols of both the interior and exterior of the Science Centre property.
· Monitor parking lot/equipment.
· Monitor and fill emergency first aid kits monthly.
· Monthly fire extinguisher inspections.
· Assist with receiving/loading dock, delivering incoming packages as required.
· Act as front-line ambassadors by greeting and interacting with Spark guests. Our goal is to provide a proactive security presence that is visible, approachable and helpful. This will include providing wayfinding, general information and other assistance to guests on a regular basis.
· Ensure personal and team activities are aligned with business and strategic goals of Spark as a whole.
· Model high performance, flexibility and kindness in a rapidly changing growth environment.
· Other duties as required and assigned.
Qualifications & Knowledge
· A minimum of 1 year of experience or expertise in the security field.
· Experience in the security and safety of property and people.
· Knowledge of applicable local, provincial and federal laws relating to security.
· Knowledge of security practices, methods and strategies.
· Proficient with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
· Previous experience with surveillance camera and card access systems preferred.
· Must hold a valid Alberta Security License, and maintain licensing as required under the Alberta Security Services and Investigations Act. Must also hold ProServe and ProTect.
· Must have Standard First and CPR level C.
· Strong ethics and ability to manage confidential data if required.
· A proven track record of adding value to an organization’s culture and initiatives.

· Desire to work on a high performing team with a continuous upgrading culture to achieve high impact results. Fluidity and a desire to work hard and grow are essential.
· A high degree of creativity with the ability to leave your ego at the door.
· Willingness to learn and adapt to change.
· Ability to work weekdays, evenings, late night events, and weekends as needed/requested.

Hourly rate: $19.41 per hour.
