Calgary’s science centre is a pioneer in science entertainment and programming, with roots dating back to 1967. Home to one of Western Canada’s largest dome theatre, the Digital Immersion Gallery, VR experiences, and innovative spaces like Steven’s Lab, where interactive experiments unfold before your eyes. From the robot-dog Flint to Canada’s first robot-coa5ter, R05iE, and a 15-acre park surrounding the science of the developing brain, Spark is a hub for creative encounters.

Position Overview

Spark is currently recruiting for a part-time, hourly Lead for the Spark Store. The Lead, Spark Store reports directly to the Manager, Retail and MembershipsThe Lead, Spark Store will be a key contributor to the overall guest experience at Spark. They are accountable for ensuring that the day-to-day guest experience in the Spark Store is executed at a world-class level. They are also responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the Spark Store including selling product, merchandising, processing online orders, assisting with e-commerce, coaching staff, receiving shipments and ordering product. The Lead, Spark Store will be an advocate for Spark Science Centre and will support the organization in reaching the goals set out in the road map.

Key Responsibilities

·            Act as a host for all guests with high energy and enthusiasm, giving insider tips where appropriate and connecting with guests through science.

·            Seek out guest interactions, creating special moments to enhance the guest experience in the Spark Store. Model this behavior for other team members.

·            Coach, train and mentor the Spark Store team on Spark’s guest experience model, selling product and store merchandising standards.

·            Demonstrate a passion for Spark Store products and help guests find the perfect gift or souvenir to take home.

·            Ensure that the presentation of the Spark Store is clean and representative of an upscale and well-maintained establishment. Report maintenance, cleaning and signage needs in a timely matter.

·            Use your well-developed retail eye and understanding of ordering timelines to keep track of inventory and assist with the creation of replenishment orders.

·            Help maintain the Spark Store website, adding new products and adjusting inventory as needed.

·            Keep up to date on Spark programming, initiatives, membership offerings and promotions.

·            Ensure personal and team activities are aligned with business and strategic goals of Spark as a whole.

·            Assist with creating efficient processes to ensure that the Spark Store is always ready for guests.

·            Address customer inquiries, understand their concerns and collaborate on solutions.

·            Model high performance, flexibility and kindness in a rapidly changing growth environment.

·            Other duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications & Knowledge

·            A minimum of 3 years experience or expertise in customer service.

·            A minimum of 1 year experience or exposure to people leadership.

·            A minimum of 3 years experience in retail or sales.

·            Ability to coach staff and model ideal behaviors.

·            A basic understanding of science communications and a passion for STEM.

·            Tourism experience is an asset.

·            Willing to work a flexible work schedule that includes evenings and weekends.

·            Functions well in a highly collaborative environment.

·            Ability to deal with guest complaints swiftly and professionally.

·            Fluency in Microsoft Office and able to use most platforms.

 Hourly rate range: $17.39 - $20.31 per hour depending on experience.
