Full-Time | Residential Treatment Setting
Battlefords Treatment Centre is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Addictions Counsellor to support individuals on their recovery journey. This role works directly with clients admitted to the treatment centre, helping them make positive life changes through structured programming, counselling, and culturally grounded care.
About the Role
The Addictions Counsellor provides direct client support within a residential addictions treatment environment. This position is responsible for facilitating treatment programming, supporting group and individual counselling, maintaining accurate documentation, and responding to client needs in a professional, ethical, and trauma-informed manner.
Key Responsibilities
Program & Clinical Support
Develop and implement individualized client treatment plans following admission
Provide primary counselling support to assigned client groups
Facilitate group programming and encourage client participation in all activities
Manage group dynamics and support positive client engagement
Identify at-risk clients, respond to crisis situations, and complete risk assessments
Maintain accurate, organized, and up-to-date client files
Operational Duties
Complete daily documentation, progress notes, incident reports, and discharge summaries
Dispense and document medications when required, in accordance with policy
Conduct client room checks and support client orientation and intake
Participate in team meetings, supervision, training, and accreditation processes
Support daily operations, including scheduled supervision of client activities
Client Support
Provide one-to-one counselling based on client needs and urgency
Encourage growth in spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical well-being
Support culturally grounded treatment approaches and practices
Maintain clear professional boundaries and ethical conduct at all times
Motivate and engage clients through respectful, strengths-based interactions
Qualifications
Post-secondary education in addictions counselling, social work, or a related field
Professional certification or registration (ICADC, CCAC, RSW, or equivalent preferred)
Experience working with individuals affected by substance use
Strong communication, documentation, and crisis-response skills
Commitment to ethical practice, teamwork, and continuous learning
