Title: Career and Employment Counsellor
Department: Bullhead Adult Education Centre – Indigenous Skills Employment and Training Strategies (ISETS)
Reports to: ISETS Coordinator
Designation: Full-Time
Review date: Three (3) Months After Start
JOB SUMMARY
As the Career and Employment Counsellor with Bullhead Adult Education Center, you will be responsible for supporting Tsuut’ina Nation clients who require employment and training assistance, by identifying employment and career development needs of clients, and providing case management action plans. The Career and Employment Counsellor will also be assisting clients to develop plans for training and apply for funding. Other duties include providing job search preparation assistance and facilitating workshops.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Counselling clients for career planning, vocational or training selection, job search, identifying and overcoming barriers to employment, personal life and career management
- Utilize assessment tools to help clients identify their interests, values, aptitudes and abilities, and relate them to the Labor Market. Develop a realistic and timely individualized action plan and provide follow-up and support
- Provide one-on-one coaching or facilitate employment and career related workshops, resume writing, cover letters, interview skills, mock interviews
- Refer clients to appropriate service providers and/or training educational institutions
- Assist with planning and implementing career and employment-related programs and events
- Office equipment and computer applications; Microsoft Office products, word- processing, spreadsheet, database management, and conducting internet research
- Assesses Tsuut’ina Nation clients’ stage of development (academic, career and personal) and promotes individual’s growth by determining suitable developmental tasks
- Maintains client files and records; documents all pertinent information and update changes to client’s status through CFT7 database
- Other related duties as directed by the BAEC ISETS Coordinator or the Education Director
- Will work one-on-one with Persons with Disability (PWD) with employment search and retention
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Desired Education and Experience:
- Post-Secondary Education in a related field and/or Certified Career Development Practitioner or (CCDP) or be working toward
- Experience in the field of career development will be considered in lieu of a diploma or
- Knowledge of the Tsuut’ina
- Must be Proficient in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, ).
- Experience with one-on-one counselling in career development issues, trades and apprenticeship, education, and
- Experience dealing with
- Personal Attributes:
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and teamwork
- Excellent time management skills, ability to multi-task in a fast-paced working environment.
- Able to work with minimum supervision and
- General Employment Requirements:
- A Valid Alberta driver’s
- Reliable
- Must be prepared to provide a current Criminal Record
- Must be prepared to abide by Tsuut’ina HR
- Must sign an Oath of
