Description

The Indigenous Cultural Helper supports culturally grounded, trauma-informed care by integrating traditional Indigenous knowledge and practices into programming. This role enhances spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical well-being for clients by providing cultural teachings and ceremonies and supporting identity and connection to culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support cultural practices such as smudging, sharing circles, and land-based teachings.
  • Assist Elders and Knowledge Keepers with ceremonies and traditional teachings.
  • Help coordinate seasonal ceremonies, feasts, and community events.
  • Provide culturally appropriate mentorship and spiritual support to clients.
  • Educate clients and staff on Indigenous traditions, history, and healing practices.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure culturally safe programming.

Qualifications:

  • Lived experience and strong knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions, and protocols.
  • Experience working with Indigenous people in support or healing roles.
  • Understanding of colonization, residential school impacts, and intergenerational trauma.
  • Respectful approach to working with Elders and diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills; ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Indigenous language skills.
  • Knowledge of traditional medicines and ceremonial protocols.
  • Experience in treatment or healing environments.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel if needed.

Includes occasional evenings/weekends, indoor/outdoor activities, and participation in ceremonies.
