What is it like to be a Recruiter?
Being a recruiter can be both rewarding and challenging. Aside from the key responsibilities laid out above, here’s a closer look at what it’s like to be a recruiter:
Rewards & Satisfaction
- Making a Difference: There’s immense satisfaction in helping someone secure a job that could change their life and supporting businesses in finding the right talent to succeed.
- Building Relationships: Recruiters often form long-term relationships with both candidates and clients, creating a network of professional connections.
- Variety: No two days are the same. Recruiting can involve working with different industries, job roles, and types of candidates, providing a lot of variety and excitement.
Challenges
- Time Pressure: Recruiters often work under tight deadlines, especially when hiring for urgent roles or high-demand industries.
- High Expectations: Clients and hiring managers expect recruiters to provide high-quality candidates quickly. This can be stressful if the talent pool is small or highly competitive.
- Candidate Expectations: Sometimes, managing candidates’ expectations, especially in terms of salary, benefits, or job duties, can be tricky, particularly if the candidate has unrealistic expectations.
- Rejection and Setbacks: Not every placement will be successful, and recruiters may face the challenge of a candidate rejecting an offer or a hiring manager deciding to move forward with another candidate.
Skills required
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, as recruiters are constantly interacting with candidates, hiring managers, and other stakeholders.
- Organizational Ability: Managing multiple candidates, roles, and deadlines at once requires excellent time-management skills.
- Problem-Solving: Recruiters often face challenges, such as finding the right candidates for hard-to-fill roles or managing conflicting priorities. Being adaptable and creative is key.
- Sales Mindset: Recruiting often involves "selling" candidates on opportunities and companies on the benefits of a candidate.
- Coachability: Recruiting is a dynamic field where methods, technologies, and strategies are constantly evolving, and the work requires a lot of trial and error. Being open to guidance and constructive criticism, being self-reflective, and using feedback to refine their skills is critical for anyone learning this field.
Working with candidates with diverse range of backgrounds and skills
Recruiters often communicate and work with candidates with a diversity of backgrounds. This work requires:
- Cultural Sensitivity: Being aware of different cultural norms and ensuring that the recruitment process is inclusive and unbiased.
- Building Relationships: Understanding and relating to candidates from different walks of life is key. Embracing a learning mindset is crucial for providing a great candidate experience and ensuring diversity in hiring.
As a recruitment company, we know that a resume doesn’t tell the whole story of what you’re capable of. That’s why, for this position, we are not requiring resumes with your application (though you may include one if you would like). Instead, we will be looking at candidates’ self-assessments, which will help us understand each applicant’s capability, interests, and compatibility with our team culture.
So if this role excites you, apply today! Our Talent Acquisition team is ready to review your profile. We look forward to connecting with you. If you have any questions about this program or are curious to learn more before applying, please email us at IRTP@raiserecruiting.com.
