Location: Battlefords Treatment Centre
Schedule: Overnight shifts (including weekends as required)
Position Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for administering and managing client medications in accordance with physicians’ orders and Battlefords Treatment Centre policies and procedures. This role plays a key part in ensuring safe, accurate, and ethical medication practices during overnight operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and dispense medications according to physician prescriptions and established safety protocols.
- Accurately document medication administration and dispensing.
- Store and secure medications in compliance with facility policies and accountability standards.
- Monitor medication inventory, including ordering, receiving, shift counts, and reconciliation.
- Communicate with the preferred pharmacy regarding prescriptions, refills, and medication issues.
- Act as the liaison between the treatment centre and pharmacy.
- Submit new client prescriptions and coordinate weekly medication refills.
- Enter and maintain client medication records in the database and client files.
- Safely dispose of restricted or unused medications in accordance with policy.
- Prepare and organize medications for clients departing treatment.
- Follow proper infection control practices at all times.
- Communicate medication changes to Addiction Counsellors and relevant staff.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and accreditation activities as required.
- Comply with organizational policies, professional standards of conduct, and ethical guidelines.
- Identify and immediately report any inappropriate or unethical behavior involving staff or clients.
- Support and adhere to Canadian Accreditation Council standards and processes.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in good standing.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to medication safety.
- Ability to work overnight shifts independently and responsibly.
- Excellent communication and record‑keeping skills.
- Knowledge of infection control and safe medication handling practices.
