Receptionist
Poundmaker’s Lodge Treatment Centres

Poundmaker’s Lodge Treatment Centres is seeking a Receptionist to join our team in St. Albert, Alberta. The Receptionist serves as the first point of contact for clients, visitors, and stakeholders, playing a key role in creating a welcoming, respectful, and culturally safe environment. This position requires excellent communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to manage multiple administrative and client-support tasks in a fast-paced treatment centre setting.
Operational Duties
Greet all clients, visitors, staff, and trainees in a friendly and respectful manner and direct them to the appropriate person or service.
Maintain a professional and welcoming reception area while contributing to a healthy work environment.
Operate the main reception phone system, directing incoming calls to appropriate staff and documenting messages according to procedures.
Receive, log, and distribute client mail to the appropriate individuals.
Ensure visitors sign in and out upon arrival and departure.
Communicate and enforce facility policies, including the prohibition of personal cell phones and cameras.
Ensure commonly used forms (e.g., medical, sweat lodge, outside meeting, and swim sheets) are readily available.
Initiate and update staff resource binders weekly (e.g., client permits, bedding sheets, medical forms, memos).
Accurately document significant occurrences and observations in accordance with established procedures.
Maintain a tidy and organized reception and office area.
Prepare client bins and belongings for discharge.
Attend mandatory team meetings, training initiatives, and seminars.
Support the Accreditation process and adhere to all accreditation standards.
Demonstrate strong computer skills using programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Publisher.
Demonstrate strong time management and organizational skills.
Client Support
Maintain clearly defined professional boundaries when interacting with clients.
Follow proper procedures during the client admission process, including confiscation of contraband items and answering general questions.
Provide non-counselling support to clients when needed.
Ensure clients use the sign-out book when leaving for walks, passes, or other approved activities.
Distribute client personal items from assigned rooming baskets when required and ensure they are returned.
Acknowledge and comply with staff communication protocols.
Be familiar with procedures for contacting external resources (e.g., Mental Health Crisis services) when responding to complex client issues.
Adhere to Poundmaker’s Lodge Treatment Centres’ Code of Ethics, policies, and professional conduct standards when supporting clients.
Demonstrate knowledge of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and values, and support their integration into the work environment.
Qualifications
Strong communication skills (verbal, written, and interpersonal).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
Experience working in a health, treatment, or social services environment is considered an asset.
Knowledge and respect for Indigenous culture, traditions, and healing practices is highly valued.
