Description
The Cultural Helper is responsible for delivering and maintaining a comprehensive Indigenous Cultural and Traditional Program that supports the Centre’s addictions treatment services. This role integrates cultural teachings, ceremonies, and spiritual guidance to promote holistic healing for clients. The Cultural Helper leads and coordinates traditional activities, supports Elders, and ensures a culturally safe and respectful environment within the Centre.
In addition to cultural programming, the Cultural Helper provides spiritual support and mentorship to clients, collaborates with counselling staff to address client needs, and contributes to treatment planning from an Indigenous perspective. The role also involves educating clients and staff on Indigenous traditions, maintaining ceremonial spaces and materials, and fostering strong relationships with community Elders.
The Cultural Helper upholds organizational policies, participates in team meetings and accreditation processes, and contributes to the overall safety, security, and well-being of the Centre. The position may also include public speaking and representing the organization in the community on cultural matters.
